Tokina 12-24 Lens for Nikon Digital

Wide

I haven’t mentioned it yet, but I have aquired a new lens: the Tokina 12-24 DX for Nikon. This is a true wide-angle lens for DX camera bodies. I am really enjoying the lens because not only does it capture beautiful wide views, but it also focuses very close, just a few inches is far enough away. The combination of close focus and wide angle can help produce some really interesting shots. Nikon makes a lens which is also 12-24 DX but charges $400 more. I’m sure that one’s good too :)

I have one minor criticism. The lens cap for the back of the lens is atrocious. It’s difficult to get on the Tokina and nearly impossible to fit on real Nikon lenses. I was previously warned about this with sigma lens caps, but it appears Tokina is also in the business of making annoying caps. In fact, today I was shooting for the whole day and actually ended up breaking part of the Tokina cap just from struggling to get it to fit on my lenses as I switched them back to my bag. I will have to pick up an additional Nikon cap soon.

Other than that, I can happily report the Tokina looks and feels very solid, takes great photos and focuses reliably and quickly. Great stuff.

I’m generally happy with my Sigma 10-20, but sometimes wish I had opted for the Tokina 12-24 instead. The extra 4mm on the long end might be more useful for portraits and stuff than the 2mm on the wide end is for landscapes.

The upgrade is trivial if you know what you’re doing, right? I most certainly do not, so is there any way I can connive you into doing mine? A couple books off of Amazon or something?

Are you referring to wordpress 2.5? Yes, it’s easy. Instructions are right here:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress

All it really takes is uploading the new wordpress files carefully according to those instructions and then going to the upgrade page. Did you install wordpress yourself originally or was it done by your web host or someone else?

It was done by a volunteer I contacted through the WP page.
