Nice post. Nikon (like Canon) probably does not share their RAW cooking recipes as they must think it is their advantage. Unfortunately, Capture is probably the worst ever piece of software and it is a giant pain to use. It does give nice renderings by default though and does pretty good with noisy pictures (see my website link for why I say that). But I'd rather just shoot jpeg to get these colors straightaway than shoot RAW and have to go through Capture NX.

On a Mac, just right-click on the link (or Ctrl-click if you have a one-button mouse), and select Download Linked File. The preset template goes in Users/your username/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Develop Presets (of course, "your username" is whatever your username on the computer is).

Thanks for the tip, I couldn't be bothered to find it out myself :) but I must admit you've come to an obvious conclusion. Now I'm gonna get Capture NX re-installed !

Hi Andrew. You'll need to "save as" the link, not just load it in to the web browser. As I wrote this post I thought "I bet someone with a mac will want mac instructions." And of course I don't remember how that's done on a mac. Once you've downloaded the actual file, go to the develop panel in Lightroom and choose Import preset from the Presets area. Choose the file and you're done.

in the last 8 months I have bought Imac, Nikon D80 and Lightroom (2 weeks ago). This was all in service of a new hobbie and getting the most out of my pics. Currently I am very frustrated with the pp part as LR and Apple really do not want to work well together from import/ export to flickr etc and general file handling. Your skills are way beyond mine once I have clicked on your preset how do I get it into LR?
